How to use Network in Job Seeker OS

Keep your professional contacts in one place: add people, record how well you know them, keep in touch on a schedule, and link them to the jobs they bring you.

01What Network is

Network is your list of people. Each person is a separate record: you can add someone with no opportunity attached, and the person stays after an opportunity closes. One person can be linked to many opportunities, and one opportunity to many people.

Open it

  1. Click Network in the sidebar, or open Network directly.
  2. With no people yet, the screen shows two buttons: + Contact for one person, and Import from a CSV for a spreadsheet.

What is on the screen

  • Reach out today: one card per person whose next touch date is today or earlier, with the reason and a Draft a message button. The section stays on screen when nothing is due.
  • Search across name, company, title, how you know them, and the promoter label.
  • Two filters. State is Due, Waiting on reply, No cadence, or All. Promoter is All, Promoter, Potential promoter, Neutral, or Negative. They combine, and each chip carries the number of people you get by clicking it.
  • The table: Person, Promoter, How you know them, Proximity, Last touch, Next touch, Opportunities, Added. Any row opens the person.
  • Proximity sorts. Click the column header for closest first, again for most distant first, again to clear it. People with no proximity set stay at the bottom either way.

The Network list: the daily queue on top, then search, the two filters, and the people table.

Waiting on reply is calculated from the correspondence: it is on while your last message is outbound and no reply has been logged, for up to 14 days. After 14 days the thread counts as cold and the chip clears.

02Add people to your network

Three ways to add people: one at a time, a CSV import, or automatically, from contacts you add on an opportunity.

Add one person

  1. Click + Contact.
  2. Name is the only required field.
  3. How you know them: Ex-colleague, Ex-manager, Alumni, Recruiter, Intro, Community, or Other. Ex-colleague is preselected.
  4. Optional identity and contact fields: title, company, email, LinkedIn, phone, Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber, notes.
  5. Promoter, Cadence, and Proximity are settable here and editable later on the person page.
  6. Link an opportunity (optional): pick one of your opportunities and the link is written as soon as the person is created.
  7. First touch (optional): if you have already spoken, fill the summary or paste the message and the conversation is logged with the person.
  8. Click Add contact.

If the person matches someone already in your network, the existing record is reused instead of a duplicate being created.

Import a spreadsheet

  1. Click Import in the header, or Import from a CSV on the first-run screen.
  2. Download the template. The columns are name, title, company, relationship, promoter, email, linkedin_url, telegram, notes, first_met_on, last_touch_on.
  3. Pick your file. The limit is 2 MB per import.
  4. The file runs as a dry run first. Nothing is written until you confirm, and the preview reports how many people would be created, updated, and skipped, with any problem row named by its line number.
  5. Confirm. The counts on the button are the counts that get written.

Your own labels are accepted: Potential promoter and potential_promoter both read the same. A relationship the system does not recognize lands in Other with a note on that row instead of failing the whole person.

People added on an opportunity

A contact added on an opportunity is the same record as a person in Network, so it appears in this list without an import. Cadence, proximity, and correspondence are stored on the person, not on the link to that job.

03Record the relationship

Three fields on the Relationship card describe the person: how you know them, promoter status, and proximity. You set each of them, and they keep the value you give them until you change it.

How you know them

Stored on the person, so it is the same across every opportunity they are linked to. Their role on one specific opportunity is a separate field on the link: Referrer, Recruiter, Hiring manager, Employee, or Other.

Promoter

  • Promoter: actively advocates for you.
  • Potential promoter: friendly towards you, but has not put their name behind you yet.
  • Neutral: knows you, no signal either way. This is the default.
  • Negative: do not ask, and do not use as a reference.

On Neutral and Potential promoter the card also shows a one-click step up: Convert to Potential promoter, then Convert to Promoter.

Negative stops the composer. No draft is generated for that person, and their card in the queue reads Do not ask.

Proximity

Six steps from Distant to Close, set by clicking a segment on the Relationship card. The list renders the same bar in the Proximity column and sorts on it. Proximity can stay unset, and those people sort to the bottom.

04Cadence and the queue

Cadence is how often you want to contact a person. Next touch is the date it sets, and the Reach out today queue lists everyone whose date has arrived.

Set a cadence

  • Monthly, Quarterly, and Twice a year set an interval of one, three, and six months.
  • None sets no interval. Next touch stays empty unless you pick a date by hand.

How the next touch date moves

  • Logging a touch moves it forward by the cadence, counted from the date of that touch.
  • Snooze a week pushes the current date seven days out and logs nothing, so last touch and waiting on reply stay as they were.
  • Pick a date sets whatever date you want, cadence or no cadence.

Reach out today

One card per person whose next touch is today or earlier, sorted most overdue first. Each card states one reason, chosen in this order:

  1. Do not ask: the person is marked Negative.
  2. You promised: the newest touch is flagged as a promise. It holds until a later touch is logged.
  3. No reply: the newest touch is outbound and no reply has been logged.
  4. Cadence due: the next touch date has arrived.

Each card carries Draft a message and Snooze a week. Search and the two filters do not narrow this queue: it always lists everyone who is due.

05Log the correspondence

Correspondence is the message history on the person page. It stores the full text of each message and is the main input the composer reads when it drafts.

Log a touch

  1. On the person page, find the Correspondence card and click Log a touch.
  2. Date defaults to today.
  3. Channel: LinkedIn DM, Email, Telegram, Call, Meeting, or Other.
  4. Direction: You wrote, or They replied.
  5. Summary: one line, optional.
  6. Full message: the message text. Optional; a touch with neither summary nor text is not saved. Calls and meetings left empty render as "No message text, this was a call".
  7. This includes a promise: flags something you undertook to send or do. Requires a summary, which is the line the queue displays as the reason.

What logging a touch changes

  • Last touch becomes the date of that touch.
  • Next touch moves to that date plus the cadence interval. With cadence None it does not move.
  • Waiting on reply turns on for an outbound touch and off when an inbound one is logged.
  • Every opportunity this person is linked to receives the same last touch stamp, so the contact card on a job matches the person page.

Reading a thread

Newest first. The three most recent messages that carry text are expanded on load, older ones collapsed; Expand all opens every message, and each message keeps its own toggle. The card header counts what is stored, for example 7 touches, full text kept for 4.

Store the full message text rather than a summary. The composer reads bodies where they exist and summaries where they do not, so a history of one-line summaries gives the draft less to work with.

06Draft a message

The composer produces a draft from the data already stored on the person. It sends nothing: you copy the text and send it from your own account.

Write and send

  1. Click Draft a message on the person page, or on a card in Reach out today, which opens the person with the composer expanded.
  2. Opening the composer starts the draft.
  3. Channel is LinkedIn DM, Email, or Telegram, and defaults to the channel of the last touch. The handle stored for that channel is shown next to the name, or "no handle stored for this channel".
  4. Based on lists the inputs the draft read: the correspondence with its message count, the active signals, and one matched case from your Professional Profile.
  5. Edit the text in place.
  6. Copy, then send it from the channel you chose.
  7. Log as sent writes an outbound touch with that text as the message body, which the next draft then reads.

When the thread exceeds the draft's context, the newest messages keep their full text and older ones are read as summaries. The composer states this above the message box.

Evidence you can send

The Evidence you can send card lists cases from your Professional Profile matched to this person. Use inserts one into the message box and does not generate a draft.

07Link people to opportunities

A person and an opportunity are separate records. The link between them is optional, and you can create it from either side: from the person, or from the opportunity.

From the person

  1. Link an opportunity opens a picker over your opportunities. Search it, pick one (opportunities at the person's company are marked "same company"), set Their role in it, and link. Already linked opportunities are excluded from the picker.
  2. + Opportunity creates a new opportunity with this person already recorded as its source.

From the opportunity

  1. On an opportunity, the contacts card carries Link a contact from Network and + Contact.
  2. Both write the same link row. A contact resolved from Network is marked from network and carries an Open in Network link to the person page.
Linking an opportunity to a person in Job Seeker OS, with the They brought me this opportunity checkbox
The linker on the person page: pick an opportunity, set the role, and record the source.

Who brought it

They brought me this opportunity records the source on the opportunity. One opportunity has at most one source, so ticking the box for a second person replaces the first. The opportunity header then shows Brought by, and the person's row in the list counts the opportunity as sourced.

Unlinking

  • Unlinking deletes the link row only.
  • The person, their correspondence, and their cadence stay.
  • The opportunity, its score, and its materials stay.

Also at this company

Lists every other person in your network whose company matches this one, with their promoter status. The match is on the company text, so spelling has to agree.

Main rule: the person record is independent of every job it is linked to. Closing, deleting, or unlinking an opportunity never removes the person or their correspondence.
